Challenges of a client employing a remote team
Recently, we wrote about the benefits of working with remote teams. Today, we'll discuss some challenges faced by someone deciding on a remote team for their project.
Uncertainty
When dealing with newcomers to a traditional team of employees, there is always a certain amount of uncertainty about their competence or performance. However, the credit of trust that is given to a stationary employee is easier to verify when he or she is working on site or when concrete results are visible.
When considering a completely unfamiliar remote team, then the doubts are much greater. Of course, insight into the experience and background of the remote team is one aspect. But how do you verify whether the remote team is performing the assigned tasks effectively and will tackle the project they are assigned to without any problems? The answer is simple: ask for case studies (link to case studies) from past projects. Concrete examples describing the work of the team, the course of action and, above all, the opinion of the people who have decided on such cooperation will be much more reliable.
Organisational chaos
The activities of the remote team are primarily intended to relieve the burden of HR activities and take micromanagement off a company's shoulders. However, who would manage the entire team? Would it have to be a board person, a manager? Not necessarily. If you want to take the entire burden of management off your shoulders, a dedicated coordinator is an extremely beneficial solution in this case. This can be provided by the company providing the remote team. It is the coordinator in such a case who oversees all the duties related to the proper execution of work and HR matters, and you receive the finished product/result.
Inadequate technology
Another aspect that can be questionable is technology. When starting a project, especially if it involves IT or new technology, then any software or tools need to be compatible. If this is not possible or if, as the person deciding on the project, we do not have the necessary technical resources, it is always possible to use the tools available to remote teams.
It is extremely crucial at the very beginning:
- setting a deadline for the project,
- the scope of the data to be acted upon,
- the results that should be produced,
- the type of tool.
Establishing the above guidelines is a guarantee of correct processes and obtaining specific results.
Data risks
A final but equally important element of concern is the threat of third-party interference with the data. How can this be prevented? A confidentiality agreement and all the legal aspects involved is one way. Another is to verify the security systems on which the hired remote team works. A third solution, of course, is for the team to work on a tool that we know and have complete trust in somewhat.
There are still many uncertainties associated with hiring remote teams for projects. However, as the business grows, security increases and trust is built on both sides, together you can overcome the adversities and sail into the wide waters of business.
